Be honest. How many times have you caught yourself watching TV with one eye and texting a mate with the other? More than you care to admit, we reckon. The behaviour isn’t unique. There are people out there who can’t even spend an hour without interrupting what they’re doing to check their smartphone.
Today’s consumer is online 24/7. Despite the cry of “I have no time” – the revelation is we love it. It seems that no matter where we are or what we’re doing, we’re cramming in more content, playing more games, connecting with more people. That’s a massive opportunity for you.
If you want visitors to spend more time in your business, you need to help them do lots of tasks at the same time.
Say you’re a coffee shop. You already have an app that customers can use to pre-order and pay for their coffee before they walk up to the counter. Can you take the app further by developing functionality to ‘check in’ on social media, add a review in exchange for a discount or buy a bag of their favourite coffee beans.
